About New Style Batik

"Before I did not really pay attention to batik because once I thought it was just a piece of batik patterned cloth that I saw every day and I wore.  Until I discovered this new technique of painting I had not come across its name though it is similar to batik. I believe it is a new creation in painting and I named itBatik Style Painting

Yanik develops batik techniques in his paintings but not by taking or studying existing batik techniques. Yanik uses watercolor techniques and uses wax to cover an area or object of the watercolor and tries to maximize the function of the wax itself, not only to cover an area of the paint, but also serve as a medium for sketches, pattern or texture effects

Making sketches and patterns with wax on paper is not easy. This is because the wax can not be sharpened like a pencil, so Yanik replaces it with a clear oil pastel. And to make a repeating motif or pattern, Yanik makes a stamp motif of thick paint and also uses the surface of leaves, bark, grass, etc. These prints are very synonymous with batik prints and the use of wax and clear oil pastel has the same function as "chanting" in batik.

It may be that Yanik's work is batik painting, but the difference is the basic idea, the working process and the medium used, which is acrylic on paper. His work is dominated by brush strokes rather than batik. But with the use of wax as a color barrier, then it could be that his work is a new type of batik. Of course this depends on which way you view it. Yanik himself calls his work "Batik Style Painting" instead Batik Painting.

Here is the construction stage of Yanik’s painting:

1. Make a basic sketch with pencil on paper, thin 75 grm, and cover with dark colors.
2. Make sketches or patterns, with more detail in this first phase, using a wax or clear oil pastel.
3. The first stage of coloring with bright color, using a good quality acrylic. Wait until dry.
4. Make sketches and motifs, phase two, on the appropriate area, make texture effect on acrylic with wax with gentle rubbing.
5. Stain the second stage with a lighter color. Wait until dry.
6. Make the last texture effect.
7. Last Stage. Finishing with color. Coloring done with more detail.
8. Removal of wax from the painting by covering with oil suction paper, which is then ironed. The wax melts and is absorbed by the paper.

Additional phases:

Attaching the finished painting on canvas or board using liquid glue.
Dark color – Sketches – Coloring – Sketches and textured – Coloring – Clear out the wax – Attaching to canvas.
